Thank you Kress Gallery, Mobius Kids Children’s Museum and Ben and Jerry’s, Ashley Potter Photography and all of the very talented therapy providers for a great evening!

It was a very successful night with a record attendance at the Kress Gallery’s First Friday Artist Reception for The ISAAC Foundation and Ashley Potter of Ashley Potter Photography.  We had many families take advantage of the opportunity to meet therapy providers in our area who treat children with autism in a variety of different therapy modalities.  Thank you to the wonderful staff at Mobius Kids who donated their time to host the private party for ISAAC Foundation children.  Thanks you Ben and Jerry’s for donating the gift certificates for a free child’s ice cream cone and thank you providers for taking the time out of your busy schedules to be available to meet with families needing assistance finding therapy intervention services for their children on the autism spectrum.

Faces of Hope

2011 Casting Call

It’s that time of year again.  The ISAAC Foundation and Ashley Potter Photography are in search of children participants (ages birth – 18) for our 2011 Faces of Hope calendar and exhibit.  The calendar will feature 12 local children who are diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder.  The photographs selected for the 2011 calendar will become the 2011 Faces of Hope exhibit that will make its debut at the 2011 Taste of Hope Auction benefit on Friday, February 11, 2011 and will travel to various galleries and locations during the year of 2011.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q:  How did the Faces of Hope calendar and exhibit get started?

A:  This project came about because Ashley Potter thought it would be fun to combine two of her loves – photography and children on the autism spectrum.  She was also very moved by the contributions of The ISAAC Foundation in our community, and wanted to help give back to the community by using her talent to photograph our children on the spectrum while increasing public awareness about the disorder and it’s every growing prevalence.

Q:  Does my child need to be an ISAAC Foundation Grant Recipient to participate in the project?

A:  No.  In fact, only 9 of the 24 previous participants have been grant recipients.  We welcome any child between the ages of birth to 18 diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder.

Q:  Can my child participate in the calendar and exhibit again?

A:  If your child has already appeared in a previous calendar and/or exhibit, they are not CURRENTLY eligible to participate in the 2011 project.  There are plans in the works to utilize previous participants in a future project. If your child has not appeared in the calendar OR exhibit, you are welcome to participate again this year.

Q:  I have more than one child diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder.  Can they both participate?

A:  Yes.  We schedule a combined photo session of the children taking both individual and group shots.  Candidates are then presented to the Faces of Hope Selection Committee as individuals and as “siblings.” In some cases, the Selection Committee will select one of the individual shots rather than a sibling pose meaning that not both siblings will appear in the calendar.

Q:  When and where do the photo shoots take place?

A:  Ashley Potter is an on-location, natural light photographer.  You will be contacted by a Foundation volunteer who will schedule your child’s 30 minute photo session.  The volunteer will advise you of the location at that time.  There is at least one weekday and one weekend photo shoot day to accommodate work and school schedules.   There are no make-up days.  If you miss your photo shoot, we cannot reschedule.

Q:  I live in Post Falls, Idaho.  Can I still participate?

A:  Yes.  If you live in The ISAAC Foundation service area (Spokane, Lincoln, Stevens, Whitman and Kootenai Counties), you are welcome to participate.

Q:  Does my child need to be able to sit in one place for the photo shoot?

A:  HEAVENS NO!  We don’t know of many kids that are happy to sit and get their picture taken.  Ashley Potter is not only one of the area’s best photographers, she is an extremely gifted pediatric speech therapist who works extensively with children on the autism spectrum.  She is calm, patient and knows exactly when to capture that perfect shot.

Q:  Will there be a make-up and hair stylist at the photo shoot?

A:  No.  We like to capture the children in their most comfortable setting.  However, children must arrive dressed and ready to have fun.

Q:  How are the final participants selected?

A:  Ashley Potter compiles 2-3 photographs of each child who has participated in the project.  These photographs are presented to the Faces of Hope Selection Committee who makes the final year’s selection. The Selection Committee is looking for a variety of emotions within the photographs that capture the face of “autism.”  It is important that all parents understand that some of the pictures selected by the committee may show the more debilitating side of autism.  Because parents will not be consulted regarding the final photograph selection, all parents must be prepared to see this side of autism portrayed.

Q:  When will I know if my child has been selected to be a participant in the 2011 Faces of Hope Calendar and Exhibit?

A:  Last year, the calendar made its debut at Aunties Bookstore in mid September.  Families will be notified one week prior to the calendar’s arrival on bookshelves and our online store.

Q:  Will I be compensated for participating in the calendar and exhibit?

A:  Each participant will receive a CD with several of the poses from the photo shoot as a thank you gift for participating in the project.  Please remember that Ashley Potter is not only a terrific photographer, she is a professional speech therapist and dedicated mother.  Ashley volunteers her time to produce this project to benefit the ISAAC Foundation and it takes considerable time to edit and create a photo session CD for each participant. We ask for your patience in receiving your complimentary photo CD.

Q:  How does this project support The ISAAC Foundation?

A:  The ISAAC Foundation raises money for this project through advertising sponsorship sales which covers the cost of calendar printing, photo canvas production and exhibit boards.  Successful sponsorship fundraising allows funds received through calendar sales to go toward our therapy grant program, long-term investment program, and helps to cover the Foundation’s operational expenses.
